Portraits | Max Schmeiser Twitter's Head of Data Science

Portraits | Max Schmeiser Twitter's Head of Data Science

Max Schmeiser is head of data science at Twitter where he and a team perform analyses and run experiments to better understand the impact of product launches on the public conversations happening on Twitter.

Back in October I photographed Max for Degrees Magazine - an alumni magazine for the University of Regina based in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Another past graduate of University of Regina was famous architect, Minoru Yamasaki, who designed the World Trade Center and the arches you see at Pacific Science Center.

The arches made a great tie-in to the University and Max’s new life here in Seattle, and Degrees magazine ended up using this portrait as their cover for the winter issue, which I couldn’t be happier about!

Max is a really nice guy and we had a lot of fun talking to him about current events and Twitter. Just an FYI, though I asked nicely, Max said he doesn’t have the power to ban Trump from Twitter for violating their rules, but he did say they are working hard everyday to fight disinformation from being spread. Check out the digital version of the magazine here.

In The Studio | Corporate Portraits

In The Studio | Corporate Portraits

Here's a recent portrait I shot of coach and consultant, Steve Porter. Steve works with entrepreneurs and those looking to move up in the corporate arena. Steve was in need of an updated headshot and images for brand narrative. We were able to meet in my studio last week and safely shoot some images together. After finishing the photo editing this week, I could not be happier with the results!

The portrait looks great and it's a great addition to the Mostly Business photo gallery on my website. I also think I found new color grading tones in Lightroom that I am really digging a lot and that I can't wait to use again. This lighting setup and post processing style I did of the portrait of Steve could become a new style to my future corporate portraits, and I'm pretty excited about it!

Since this was one of the first shoots I've done indoors since the Covid-19 pandemic started I decided to get down there early setup my gear. Thankfully, after careful planning and maintaining a safe distance, Steve and I were able to get awesome shots, safely. With safety and quality being my main priorities, I decided to used my Canon 70mm-200mm F/2.8, which allowed me to keep a good social distance from Steve while also getting sharp images. I have to say, I think the 70-200mm lens if by far Canon's best lens ever. It's so damn sharp! If you haven't used it yet, I highly recommend it!
